44.9°E Galaxy 11 (OLD POSITION Data>Ku)

  • I am not sure that on this topic should I post, probably not,but I locked a weak signal on 11161 H,4000,1/2,S2 for a AOL client.I checked if the signal comes from a neighboring satellite and it looks like not.

    Thanks satesco!

Yes, confirm this position, very close to 45.0°E, so Astra 1F should be real here...

/edit: Okay, read now hvdh´s post, so maybe it´s from Galaxy 11?

  • Hi hvdh,

Is not far from 45,I'd say that almost overlap, but I'm sure that the signal is not on Intel 12 or Azer sat. There are a few peaks(signal fluctuating)between 10950-11200 MHz that I can't lock and I think they come from the same satellite.

    qwer,thanks for confirmation
    regards

I made a new topic, for the time being for Galaxy 11, with a question mark...

Intelsat site only shows a footprint over Southern Africa and Madagascar, maybe reception in Europe is a sidelobe?

Edit: attached the footprint. It is the former CONUS beam reversed. The little spot now over Angola, was over Puerto Rico. There used to be a Brasil beam available for 10.95...11.2 GHz as well.

  • Hi hvdh,

Thank you for opening a new topic dedicated to this satellite.
I don't know what to think, but with all that would be nice to receive a spot so far away from Europe,I still have doubts that the signal we get is from southern Africa regardless of what lobe!?It would be a miracle too high which not even Houdini would be able to achieve it :20:,especially since I used a dish of only 150 cm.
And yet,if it is true that we catch Galaxy 11 in European zone,at least on the map posted above, then we can give up the rational explanation,or if you want, reasonable, and to change the method by which we determine areas of reception. As they say,is too good to be true.
Too bad there are not many dxers from many parts of the globe who check our reports of reception, including this case, which for me,is inexplicably.
Maybe it's useless, but please excuse me as I expressed doubts openly. And it is not tied to your valuable activity, indispensable for us.The more we know, the more we know less.
    My best regards :125:

    Hello satesco,

I'm quite sure this is Galaxy 11, the other nearby satellites can't use these frequencies.
But I also doubt you're receiving from the southern Africa beam.
As I mentioned, the former Brasil beam may be in use as well.
In the FCC license for the use of Galaxy 11 at 45°E, both the 10.95...11.2 GHz and 11.7...12.2 GHz ranges are mentioned, albeit with no mention of the beam areas used.

Edit: by the way, 11162 H 4000 received here with 1 dB (120 cm Laminas).
Have to point to 44.7°E for max. signal, probably to minimize 11175 H 27500 disturbance of 46°E.

    From my QTH

  • Another "unusual" signal at this position-12188 V,27500,5/6,8PSK.
This time looks like it's a mux.I would enjoy that someone can lock it.

    Hi satesco,

same parameter as D-Smart mux on 42.0°E... :88:

PS: Nothing here on 2.2m from position 45.0°E.

    Best Regards
    qwer.

  • Hi Qwer,

You're right,I never thought the signal on this frequency reaches a position so far. I moved the antenna to West as a way to check if the signal is coming from Turksat and I noticed that is not on this satellite :89:I don't think it's an excuse, but at smaller antennas such errors are more common.
    Thanks :73:

Changes on the Intelsat web site!

The footprint (G-11@45NAKV.jpg) that I posted on 27 Nov has moved from Southern Africa to Europe & N-Africa!

Another footprint (G11@45SFXKH.jpg) now covers Southern Africa. This is the former Brazil footprint, check the shape!

It is still called "Future Location" so maybe these footprints are not in effect yet. Also I would expect stronger signals from the Europe/N-Africa footprint.

All this may be in preparation of Intelsat 12 planned to end services in Q1 of 2017. Inclination is climbing since 1 Dec.

Intelsat 904 is also planned to move from 60°E to 45°E after Intelsat 33e is fully operational.

And maps for 904 at 45e are already added.
Also maps for new 18W are also posted. :95:
