17.0°E Amos-17

    • Offizieller Beitrag

I checked 13.4-13.75GHz in February and more recently. The method of comparing a scan to clear sky noise is quite sensitive but I have not found a hint of a signal. I was using an RHCP feed so should see V & H, although 3dB down. The attached plot just shows a slight increase from the base line due to a little ground noise.

Amos 17 is supposed to have a European beam, possibly steerable, but I guess no-one has a use for it. Is there anyone further south that has seen anything?

Nothing for me in spectrum, using 1.8m and chinese Extend Ku LNB. :126:

/edit: nothing else can be found in spectrum (tried 70.5°E to 27.5°W)

If you want test the LNB, try

You may just be able to detect it using CS. Set CS to not auto-range, with 1dB/div, and look for a small increase in noise level. The carriers at the centre of the humps are easily found using an SDR. USA-139 is inclined by about 8.5 degrees so can be hard to locate.

Since Amos-17 gives no results yet, maybe NASA's inclined TDRS relay satellites are worth a try? They use downlink band 13.4...14.05 GHz.
In a quick search I found this pdf with detailed specs:
    https://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/….nasa.gov/20180003065.pdf
    Visible from W. Europe are:
    11.4°W incl. 5.5° TDRS-13
    41.0°W incl. 4.6° TDRS-12
    46.0°W incl. 14° TDRS-6
    49.0°W incl. 14° TDRS-3
    62.4°W incl. 7.5° TDRS-9

  • .. Thanks for the extra list - i'll check them out asap.
Iv'e managed to locate s-band's suggestion of USA-139 @ 27.5° West for beacon 13.300 but is fairly difficult to locate .

  • Hello

    I didn't find 12.75 - 13.75 GHz LNB yet :37:

    But I have now 10-10.7 GHz & 13.5-14.5GHz:73:

I tray the 13.75-14.5GHz lnb (12.8 LOF) without find anything

one Unlocked TP 14584 H 2083 ...in fact it is a reflection of 11016H 2083 from 16°E south Beam :77:

  • ... We have to keep looking :126: - one day we will be lucky.

My V / H scan for 17° E Extended Ku today from the UK.

  • Just checking this position again with IQmonitor : 13692,H/V :25:

    Scan from 13400 to 14400.

  • Also 13335,H/V 13182,H/V !?

    Thanks flie! :76:

Sorry, can´t check this position right now...

flie Unfortunately the BWEI LNB has quite poor image rejection and I think you may be seeing image responses. Can you peak the dish on the beacons or their images to check that the signals you see are in the correct position?

It is strange that you should have many narrow band signals in either the wanted or image bands that you show. It's possible that you have some 13GHz terrestrial links nearby. I have one around 13.15GHz but that looks like DSSS (spread spectrum) and is only 'seen' as noise on CS.

I peaked on the beacons 12501H & 12501.5V and could not see anything in the band 13.4-13.65G. The odd spikes on the plot are just noise (I checked looking close in on a couple).
