Was soll ich dazu sagen?

What can I say? Apart from mobile use, I prefer the PCIe cards. There is now no part lying around, plug-in power supply where I never know where to plug it in and then the USB cable.

When it comes to receiving S2X, it is very different when it comes to receiving S2X transponders. You can orientate yourself a little according to the manufacturer's information, especially the FEC.

It is primarily about the IQMonitor, but here flie and I made comparisons of different cards with S2X transponders (21.5 ° E).

    I don't have a 6902SE or 6904SE.

satesco also has a number of cards, maybe he can give a verdict on them.

Even if I curse them for the speed, the 6903x is still the best when it comes to S2X.

  • what you think about 6904SE ? Is the same with scanning and etc with 6902SE ?

I'm sure, 6904SE is the same 6902SE - except driver the only difference: 6904SE has four input, 6902SE - has only two. I don't need more than two inputs so I'll wait for 6902SE in stock - if not in stock I'll wait for while another new PCI-E SAT card (may be non-Montage) out.

  • VictorLS is right, 6902se and 6904se have the same hardware support, with differences in the number of tuners.

I can't talk about 6904se because I haven't tested this card. In fact, I don't even have it.

And if anyone wants to know something about the 6902se card, they can get an idea from my presentation so far on this topic. I will soon finish these tests, after which I will draw some conclusions.

And about the specific differences between the two cards you can only give verdicts after you have tested each one, even if they have the same type of demodulator.

  • I must confess that I had some apprehension when I wanted to install 6902se on Linux, more precisely on Ubuntu 20.04. To which I must add, I had no reference from the manufacturer about the drivers for this card, and besides, I did not know which kernel version is valid to install and work on Ubuntu.

I installed the driver for the TBS cards, following the command line shown on the manufacturer's page, Home - tbsdtv/linux_media Wiki - GitHub. I didn't encounter any problems with the driver's installation. Everything went normally, but after rebooting the computer, although the driver installed and it was possible to work with the 6902se card, I found the desktop resolution had completely changed from the initial 1920x1080x50 Hertz to a lower one, impossible to work normally on the computer. My attempts to change my graphic card settings in Ubuntu proved futile.

In fact, I later found the 5.8.0-54-generic kernel version installed with Ubuntu 20.04 conflicts with the driver of the graphic card I was using, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. I was advised to install kernel version 5.8.0-44, after the following command line:

    wget https://www.tbsdtv.com/downloa…d-2021-06-07-i915.tar.bz2

    tar xjvf media_build-2021-06-07-i915.tar.bz2

    cd media_build

    ./install.sh

    reboot

This time, the installation of the card went well, and after reboot, the desktop resolution returned to the default setting of 1920x1050. I had installed the 5.4.0-81-generic kernel and everything worked normally, and I could install the applications for my card.

In the meantime, I installed the new kernel versions on Ubuntu 20.04 with the same command line mentioned above. Fortunately, I have encountered none more resolution problems, as I did in the beginning.

I am now working with kernel version: 5.11.0.-40 generic. TBS has fixed this problem for the new kernel versions, 5.15.0…

But, out of carelessness, I accepted to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04, which every time installs a new kernel version, which again creates the same problems as the first time, i.e. lower desktop resolution. Fortunately, with the above command line, I solved this problem regardless of the kernel version installed. I now have the 5.11.0.40-generic kernel. It seems to be the solution for the 6902se card, but also for the other dvb cards I have installed on my computer.

Using the command "dmesg | grep -I 6902se", I checked if it installed the driver for the 6902se card.

    tF4IsdA.png

Once the latest kernel drivers are installed on Ubuntu 20.04, I could work with the dvbs utilities without any problems.

And I started with the handiest software for a regular user, or even for Linux novices, the scanning utility, w_scan and the Kaffeine player, for watching TV programs. With w_scan I checked both tunings 0 & 1 of the card, connecting them with the coaxial cable to the antennas positioned at 30.0W-Hispasat and 19.2E-Astra. With the correct command line set in the terminal for both satellites, the simultaneous scan with both card tunings went well.

    zSv2BwP.png

With the Kaffeine player, I wanted to check if it was possible to scan the transponders with the Italian multi-stream at 5.0W. But before that, I updated the default list parameters of the player's Eutelsat 5 West A satellite.

Even if this player is not versatile and doesn't have many settings possibilities, it pleased me it could scan and find the multi-stream TV programs of the Italian broadcaster Rai.

    9wvOOcP.png

With the tbs6902se card, like other dvb-s cards, you can watch and record directly the programs transmitted via satellite, but also for streaming with dedicated applications. For tests, I have selected two of the most popular Linux users, Astra Cesbo and Tvheaden.

With Astra Cesbo, both the settings and scan of the chosen transponders for both tuners of the 6902se card are within the reach of any user, regardless of the parameters of a transponder.

For this test, rather for endurance than anything else, I did UHD streams with the first tuner 0 from the SES operator at 19.0E, 10995 H, 22000, 3/4, 8PSK, HEVK, and with tuner 1 from 30.0W, Hispasat 4K TV provider, at 11238 V, 30000, 3/4, 8PSK, HEVK.

I also streamed, with both tuners, with PLS stream packets at 5.0E and 19.0E. No problem running them

    UypbkGC.png

    X2BiLbP.png

Of course, it's not the UHD streaming that's a problem with the 6902se, even when using both tuners simultaneously, but the ability of the processor and graphics card to run such streams smoothly.

I have encountered no problems with the setup and use of the 6902se card with Tvheadend. I have also tested both tuners 0 and 1 to run streams simultaneously, choosing two different signal sources, from 19.0E and 5.0W, choosing from the last satellite, MIS transponders.

    8bkTHIj.png

Also, those who want to stream with the dvblast app can do it with no problem:

    7bGlibB.png

I don't believe it's curiosity, but those interested in listening to radio services via DABlin can do so with the GTK GUI (GIMP Tool Kit) app. To succeed, some utilities need to be installed. It is not the case now to go into details, because that is not the point of this presentation. What is important is that such satellite radio services can be listened to by this card. I found such a service (Rai) on a MIS transponder, at 11013 V,35300,2/3,8PSK at 5.0W.

    ynSk0VX.png

As you can see, I have not attempted to go into the details and configurations of each dvb application that the TBS6902se card supports, which I have illustrated above. That is not the point of this presentation. Those versed in Linux can exploit it better than I did in this brief presentation, especially on the streaming side.

  • Because we don't yet have the specifications of this card to refer to when presenting 6902se, for this reason I cannot name this presentation a review, or if it is incomplete. But it can be considered such from the perspective of a regular user, of TV/Radio, or streamer, because this card can meet their needs to a degree that many other cards do not.

Compared to other dvb cards I have tested so far, the 6902se card, besides being a more powerful version of the 6902, although it has the characteristics of a regular dvbs/s2/s2x card, with the new Montage m88rs6060 chip, in terms of satellite signal reception, three (there are others) are the elements that make it stand out from other cards as soon as you connect it to a signal source:

    - the extraordinary speed, unmatched by any dvb card, to detect and scan transponders. For example, Astra 19.2E, searching and locking 104 transponders, between 10700-12750 MHz, done in 1.17 sec, and with the 6983 card, the same bandwidth and transponders, in 2.84 sec.

    - In BLScan2, scanning, instant locking of multi-stream transponders using PLS codes (Root and Gold), without the need to find and enter them manually!

    - auto searching and lock the weaker signal on some transponders,

    - Compared to older Montage DS3K-based devices, RFScan and BLScan2 scanning is faster and more accurate, sometimes even better than the demod STV091x,

    - scans and lock transponders with S2X extension,

    - works well on streams with 60-90mbit CCM transponders,

    -supports dvb applications and players.

Since we do not yet have the specifications of this card to consult when reviewing this card, based on the tests carried out, I can mention these things that have drawbacks:

    - restrictive support of ACM/AVC modulations, transponders detected as being in the CCM every time,

    - Only one modecode is supported on DTT muxes,

    - card would not (yet) support BLScan and IQscan,

    - does not lock low symbol rate below 1000 Ms, apparently not above 45000 Ms either.

Of course, I like to believe the manufacturer will solve some shortcomings mentioned above, and it's only a matter of time until they found them. For the time being, it only affects reception enthusiasts, signal seekers, and special parameters, and certainly not regular TV consumers.

Because we don't have the 6902se card specifications and/or other analysis tools from the manufacturer, the presentation of the card is due to crazycat, who has brought it to life and highlights some significant features that this card has. In fact, he gave us the tools (driver and app support) I needed to exploit this card.

I also thank him for this occasion. :70:

  • I don't know if I need to point out the extraordinary speed with which 6902 finds and locks the signal and transponders. But I thought I'd add another little video file with this card when it scans many S2X extension transponders, the ones we have at 33.1E. I believe many users are trying to lock them and find out the parameters.

I also accompany this video about the 6902se with another one about the 6983 card. From the video, you can see that the 6983, although it finds the transponders, cannot lock them on the first try.

Once again, the search time is clearly in favor of 6902se over 6903 or 6903x.

I didn't make a video with 6903x, because it takes a long time to scan. That's why I'm only posting the result of this search.
