• I have just released neumoDVB version 1.0 for linux computers,

NeumoDVB is a DVB Settop box and dx-program for linux. Its supports advanced muti-tuner cards based on the stid135 chip, such as TBS-6909x and TBS-6903x and simpler cards based on stv091x like tbs5927, on tas2101 like tbs5990 and on si2183 like tbs6504 Some of the features include

    • spectral analysis of satellite bands
    • blindscan (TBS-6909x, TBS-6903x, tbs5927, and incomplete support for tbs5990)
    • scanning muxes
    • viewing and recording programs
    • epg scanning, including SkyUk, Freesat, Movistar, Viasat Nordic
    • watching encrypted streams using oscam
    • tuning to multi-stream and T2MI streams
    • controlling positioners Currently this software is fully functional, but is of alpha quality. It has seen very little testing.

The software supports spectrum scan, blindcanning, viewing TV... The advanced features require installing the neumo blindscan drivers, but the less advanced functionality of neumoDVB also works without these drivers.

The newest features include parallel blindscan (up to 8x faster on cards with many demodulators), fast high-resolution (less than 100kHz) spectrum acquisition on supported cards.

  • Thanks to Deeptho for the new version. It is by far the best DVB application for Linux that exists. Indeed, there are not too many such applications for this system, but as designed and executed by Deeptho, it can rival those living under Windows, and the 6903x/6909x card is the best performing application regardless of the system it runs under.

The algorithm found and applied for neumoDVB blindscan on these cards exceeds all expectations, both in terms of search speed but also for locking symbol rate low, under 1000Ks. Those who have used it so far, say, 6903x under Windows, have experienced some difficulties with low symbol rate muxes; most of the time, they ended up not looking for them. I didn't think it was possible to find and lock these low symbol rates at these cards with demod stid135 after the experiences I had since using them under Windows.

There are many exciting things that neumoDVB has. For now, I'll stop at a low symbol rate, which I know is of interest to those who post on this forum.

About other aspects of the new version, I will post on different occasions.

Muxes with Maria radio stations at 10.0E, with 256 Ks/s, were and are the hardest to find and lock even with regular DVB cards under Windows. Only those with demod STV091X based(6983/6903, USB5927) can process this parameter well. The 6903x/6909x cards cannot read this low symbol rate at 10.0E. My attempts to lock these muxes with Crazyscan failed with all the excellent improvements made by the CrazyCat developer.

The new neumoDVB version under Linux manages to lock these close transponders with a low symbol rate with 6903x/6909x cards. Some of these transponders the app finds automatically, but the best is when they are searched and locked manually lock.

I should also add that this app is a work in progress, which means some features, such as blindscan, will be improved, or possible bugs will be removed in the next versions.

For now, let's be glad that this application makes it possible to exploit the stid135 chip to the level of hardware capabilities it has.

  • Maybe the linux utilities used for DAB, MPE, IP should be built into the application :17:

I have to analyze these two Italian DAB at 12676 V, because as far as I consider them (and they are) two audio tracks of Radio Maria. Probably because of the strong signal at 12676 V the application finds the correct name and ID of this mux.

The other Radio Maria muxes(12607 V, 12608, etc) are referred to as Service by neumoDVB. In fact, each mux has two audio tracks.

  • As we know, at 5.0W we have two muxes with low symbol rates, 11454 H,543,1/2, and 11465 H,667,3/4,8PSK.

Besides other parameters, perhaps these were in mind by Deeptho when developing neumoDVB, because, since the first release, these muxes could be locked on manual search with the 6903x/6909x card. Later versions confirmed the success. They could be found and locked on auto search, and playback of Radio programs is almost instantaneous.

Those who work with 6903x/6909x cards under Windows and want to switch to Linux will greatly appreciate this hard-to-get performance under Windows.

Of course, the new neumoDVB version has other features that make it stand out from other DVB applications. But more about that later.

  • Interesting that DVB-S2X on 11592.50 H already gives false results

DAB muxes from 11454H to 11458H have already been switched off?

11592 H is not a false result for two reasons, 1. because in the muxes search the displayed parameter is an estimate, not the real one, and 2. in this case the signal is too weak for the transponder to be locked. When they're in the red on the spectrum they're not locked up.

As you already know, 11592 H has the slot on Eutelsat 5 West A, inclined by 2.3°, and the signal has other values during the day when it appears on the spectrum.

11454 H is active, as you can see in the screenshot, and 11458 H has long left the satellite, or at least I haven't found it for a long time.

I only post transponders that I find. I haven't seen the ones you mentioned for a long time, either on Windows or Linux, this one I checked this with other utilities besides neumoDVB. Perhaps other users will be lucky enough to find them.

  • 16.0E Eutelsat 16A

With the tbs6903x card, muxes with low symbol rate at 16.0E,neumoDVB finds them, either on auto search or manually. Since they have been moved to 11053 H,11054, the signal is a bit weaker. And yet, even in such conditions, they can be found and locked after a few tries.

Only muxes with symbol rates of 176 Ks/s at 11054.7 H(BNR Radio) and 146 Ks/s at 12689 V (Radio Gdansk) could I not lock.

Unfortunately, on Windows, these cannot be found by any method. Or at least I haven't been able to.

  • 23.5E Astra 3B,

At 23.5E, the auto search with the 6903x card was more accessible, and muxes with low symbol rates were locked immediately, among others, 285 Ks/s on 12647 V, which could then be listened to with neumoDVB without problems.

  • neumoDVB locked another auto search low symbol rate with the tbs6903X card at 26.0E, on 11015 H,555,3/4,a Radio service.

  • A remarkable achievement of neumoDVB with the 6903x card is finding and locking the five muxes (11127 V,11128 V,11129 V,11130 V,400,5/6), which have a low symbol rate at 42.0E, and this happens when auto-searching.

The five frequencies separated by a few tens of kHz could be discriminated by Deeptho's application as if it was scanning with the 6983 cards on Windows and not with the 6903x, which, as we know, does not achieve this performance under this operating system.

What Deeptho has done with his application is nothing more than a way to highlight the "steroids" that the demod stid135 has, with which the tbs6903x/6909x cards are equipped. At the moment, this is impossible to achieve under Windows with all CrazyCat's efforts to improve the performance of these cards. We will have to wait for these cards to reach the level achieved under Linux.

Deeptho's success should encourage receptionists looking for the right tools to get what they want in reception. Deeptho's performance as a developer has positive consequences for Dxers. For this, we must thank him :70:

  • Yesterday, just before the power outage, I looked at this spectrum:

    86314-42-0e-low-symbol-rate-2022-12-08-17-21-png

It is ideal in terms of what goes into the card's RF input. :73:

Compensation of spectrum distortions that are associated with a standing wave in the drop cable, the nonlinearity of the amplitude-frequency characteristic of the entire receiving installation and the card tuner in particular - these are problems that are solved in the IQmonitor Pro program, and in terms of drivers and their speed, the result is excellent! :12:

I take my hat off to the developer of the program :70: and hope for a possible adaptation of the software for Windows

    Bravo, bravisimo :76::76::76:  @deeptho

  • Strannik,

thanks for the kind words. You have my respect for developing IQmonitor Pro and you have my sympathies for the difficult situation in which you have to live.

Sooner or later the evil must end. I wish it will be sooner...
