Hi all - TBS5925 is it worth upgrading?

  • Hello everyone :72:
First of all a greeting from Italy, this is the first post I am making in this forum.
After many years I started to have fun with feed searching again, with a tbs5925, the latest version of ebspro and a usals motorised system - 100 cm dish.
I see that over time other tbs sat cards have come out, some also capable of receiving the S2X standard.
Based on your experience, is it worth upgrading?
Unfortunately, due to a technical problem, I can only use a minipc, so I can only use USB cards, no PCI-e.
Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

  • Hi Danny,

I would also be curious about S2X feeds. Which USB one could you recommend that has a similar performance?

At the moment there are (still) very few S2X transponders, mostly they are data.
I have a kind of “love-hate” relationship with the 6903x (PCIe).
It is too slow for me under Windows, but it evaluates the data best, where other models occasionally provide incorrect values (usually affects the FEC).

The fact that 6983/6903/6908 cards are no longer available does not speak for TBS either.

Unless your USB card shows any technical problems, I would continue to use it.
With increasing S2X volumes, our chances of experiencing a good series again may increase.

There is also a technical hurdle: S2X signals are usually a little more demanding in terms of the required signal strength.

If you don't specify the antenna size and the approximate location, posting is useless if it's about signal acquisition.

"Auto" should never be in the settings.

  • femi succinctly presented whether and which cards would be suitable for a feedhunter.
But if you still want to upgrade your USB tuner from 5925 to another USB tuner, the best is the 5927 USB tuner(only for dvb-s2 standard, not S2X extended). It's almost as good as the 6983/6903 (it uses the same demodulator), plus it's resistant to heavy use.

In fact, 5927 is an upgrade hdw to 5925, and because it overheats, it can break. You were lucky it lasted so long if you used it long and hard. :3:
