96.5°E Express-103

  • Sounds promising! I'll need to get a dielectric plate and try and see whether I need a bigger antenna or not. I hope the interference will let me through; 5G is not a problem in my area iirc, but the elev. angle is going to be a bit less than 2 degrees...

Meanwhile, does anyone have a constant access to that satellite and 3707R mux? I am currently writing a thesis on North Korean mass media and language thereof and I've been deprived of access to it thanks to the satellites switch. Sadly, the only livestream available on the internet is dissatisfactory and basically impossible to work with :( if there's anyone that could temporarily share the 3 channels (1 TV + 2 Radio) with me through internet, until I set up my dish (of course all costs and technicalities on my side), I'd be more than happy to get in contact. I've already looked at countless of IPTV services, with no luck.

When KCTV was broadcast on 87.5E, it was an occasion to watch "the so-called TV programs." They are continuous propaganda for the so-called extraordinary achievements of the communist system and an almost mystical cult of the supreme leader, Kim Jong-Un.
I also made a recording from KCTV at 87.5E., which reminded me of when I lived in Romania when "beloved" Tov. Nicolae Ceausescu ruled communist Romania with an iron hand; the leadership model was taken over by the Romanian dictator from Kim Il Sung, grandfather of the current "supreme" when he visited that country in the 70s.

Where there is much propaganda, there is much lying. Romanians have lived it to the full, and it is no coincidence that Dec '89 was a bloody revolution. The more powerful such a leader is, the poorer that country is.

If you want, I can provide you with the recording from the old position on the arch.
In the meantime, if you think it will help you, you can use the satellite recordings I made for your thesis about the North Korean media as propaganda material and the cult of personality of the current Supreme Leader.

  • Once again, thank you so much! It's refreshing to be able to see KCTV in such a quality. Nowadays all there is left is the 576i stream (after strong compression) with a glitchy audio feed...

I am familiar with the station and I've seen countless recordings as well, so I didn't necessairly mean "general" outlook on the TV and propaganda in mind, however the recordings are still valuable, since earlier this year all North Korean outside websites that have had many videos from the TV on them have been shut down due to the recent policy shift on reunification (this is also when language used towards South Korea changed and many, many other things - it's basically what I had in mind earlier). Many materials that I've started to reference are gone already thanks to that, so I grew to archive everything of the nature. Oh, but I digressed there a bit. Back to the topic.

If you have any other recordings from the TV, I would be very happy if you were able to share them. I have a FTP server and a few TBs free storage space there, if you wanted to share, I could DM you with the details.

Thanks so much for your time! I really appreciate that a lot.

In Lubartów? Cool. My dish is located at the outskirts of Lublin, so your message reassured me a bit :) We'll see if I can get it to work, hopefully before the end of the year

  • Remember that so low above horizon signal may be not stable especially with smaller dishes.

    Good Luck !

    ...

I had several recorded materials, but I think I lost them along with the hard drive, which I never recovered.
I could have posted the files on, say, YouTube, as did an American, I think, who announced that he had accidentally managed to receive KCTV, which was part of a package of TV channels transmitted on an American satellite. So, it was not a DX reception but one that any user would have received.

What's surprising is not so much the reception that some big channels, like CNN or other big newspapers, announced the reception of a North Korean TV program on American media as big news.

So everyone with access to this satellite TV station could have been able to send this material to YouTube like what I sent you. I kept them only as teaching material for those who would have wanted to know what was happening to a society and a people under the heavy heel of a dictator.

Of course, we are on a forum for DX receptions and exchange of information and reports. The content we find on the feeds may be covered in another section.

Of course, you're only interested in the info on receptions and less my comment. If I catch KCTV at 96.5E, then as usual, I will post on the forum.

I hope you get reception before I do once you get your antenna installed.

    Regards :3:
